Segmental Baffle Laser Cutting

Single and double segmental baffles for shell-and-tube heat exchangers — laser cut from plate up to 3.5″ thick on our 30 kW fiber laser, with every surface deslagged and every hole deburred.

What Segmental Baffles Do

Segmental baffles direct shell-side flow across the tube bundle of a shell-and-tube heat exchanger, increasing turbulence and heat transfer while supporting the tubes against vibration and sag. A baffle is a circular plate with a segment removed — the "baffle cut" — and a precise pattern of tube holes matched to your tube layout and pitch.

Hole quality is everything. Rough or burred holes score tube walls during bundle assembly and can initiate fretting failures in service. That's why we deslag every surface and deburr every hole before a baffle leaves our shop — your bundle slides together without rework.

Single vs. Double Segmental

  • Single segmental — the standard configuration; maximum cross-flow and heat transfer, typical 20–35% baffle cut.
  • Double segmental — split flow paths that reduce shell-side pressure drop and vibration in high-flow services.
  • Doughnut-and-disc and custom window patterns cut to your print.

Industries We Serve

Roosevelt Steel Co. supplies laser-cut baffles to heat exchanger and pressure vessel manufacturers, refinery and petrochemical maintenance shops, and OEM equipment builders across the Gulf Coast and throughout the United States. Break-in and rush orders are welcome — when a plant is down, we cut.

Why Laser-Cut Baffles on Our High-Powered Laser

A baffle is only as good as its holes and its edge, and that is where a high-powered fiber laser earns its place over waterjet and flame:

Send us your tube layout as a DXF, DWG, or PDF and hear back promptly. Working from an old hand-drawn print or a marked-up photocopy? Send that too — we convert hand drawings to CAD in house. MTRs are available on request.

Need baffles cut? Send the print.
